Electrical Superintendent

The Electrical Superintendent will be responsible for on-site implementation and conformance of electrical engineering and maintenance programs of all company equipment and other electrical engineering infrastructure. The position will focus primarily on preventive & corrective maintenance practices and the development of predictive and condition-based maintenance for all areas. The position will also ensure all trade work is done according to applicable industry specifications, codes and standards. Some international and domestic travel may be required.

Responsibilities

    • Ensure electrical engineering preventive/corrective maintenance is implemented on Engineering infrastructure.
    • The Electrical Superintendent will coordinate with the Facilities Superintendent to ensure the availability, upgrade and augmentation of such electrical services in line with the changing requirements.
    • Coordinate with the operation department to execute all plug-in and plug-out, builds and tear down.
    • Responsible for the safe and successful execution of maintenance, facilities and operational activities, by providing a focus on safety, quality, cost and schedules.
    • Oversee all trade-related work as conducted by electricians and or subcontractors, and verify work is done according to industry-specific codes and standards.
    • Oversee all activities to the facilities equipment preventive maintenance following timelines and schedules.
    • Arrange the daily maintenance crew based on the operational requirements in accordance with company rules and regulations.
    • Assist in preparing the budget for electrical maintenance and work.
    • Ensure compliance with trade-related Safety procedures, processes and plans.
    • Resolve and oversee any issues and concerns with daily workers, consultants, owners and/or inspectors.
    • Using proper planning & good purchasing practices you will manage the order and inventory process for materials required for ongoing electrical work.
    • Monitor products and materials to ensure they meet all quality and specification requirements.
    • Schedule labour and/or materials that optimize the sequence of electrical work in coordination with other trades and/or sub-trades.
    • Scrutinize and verify all contractor materials and work systems.
    • Support and encourage continuous improvement in all work-related activities.
    • Contribute to all company safety goals to eliminate workplace accidents.
    • Emphasize Risk Management in quality, safety, sustainability and human resources.
    • Ensure that proper safety, security and environmental procedures are in place and being implemented.
    • Maintain a personal and professional commitment to sustainability, safety and maintaining a respectful workplace.
    • Administer the Collective Agreement with the local as necessary.

    Experience, Qualifications & Attributes

      • Industry-related trade certification from a recognizable educational institution along with heavy-duty industry-related work experience.
      • At least 2 years of industry-related experience is considered a definite asset; however, similar heavy-duty experience, working within a supervisory role, where the role was responsible for carrying out preventative maintenance with OH&S is also acceptable.
      • Ability to work with math concepts such as basic math, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, and percentages, and apply them to practical situations.
      • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and data furnished in written, oral, diagram and/or schedule form.
      • Ability to think in a manner of abstract thought and reflection, as well as creative thinking and problem-solving; and apply this to practical situations. Possess good labour relations skills and have a sound understanding of the local collective agreement.
      • MS Office including: (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook Email, Adobe Pro, Internet. Able to use technology to maximize efficiencies and learn upgrades, and programs quickly.
      • Red Seal Electrical Certification, Basic First Aid, Confined Space, Emergency Response, Fall Protection, Fire Extinguisher, Forklift, Leadership, TDG, Arc Flash, Due Diligence, Inspection, Incident Investigation, Risk Assessment, Spill Management, WHMIS specific.
      • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, persuasion skills, public speaking, negotiating skills; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management.
      • Able to deal with various customer demands/styles and challenges.
      • Possess a collaborative mindset and work well as part of a team.
      • Superior time management abilities and capable of meeting deadlines.
      • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
      • Goal-oriented with a disciplined approach and ability to focus on high-priority efforts.
